Samuel J Sullenberger

Samuel J. Sullenberger, 71, of West Liberty, passed away at 2:03 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at his home. He was born in Troy on July 1, 1951, to the late Sam D. Sullenberger and Doris Jean (Minnich) Sullenberger. On July 6, 1974, he married the former Effie Esh and she survives.

He is also survived by a daughter: Nichole Cordell; five grandchildren: Nickolas Cordell, Joshua (Justine) Cordell, Maegan Cordell, Zachary Cordell and Jayden Cordell; a great-grandchild: Ezra Thomas Cordell; and three brothers: Lawrence (Sheila) Sullenberger, Michael (Maxine) Sullenberger, and Paul (Elaine) Sullenberger. Two sisters: Theresa Kriete and Mary Sullenberger and a brother, Norman Sullenberger preceded him in death.

An outdoorsman, Samuel enjoyed hunting. He was a beloved grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church, 960 Children’s Home Road, Urbana, OH 43078. Pastor Joey Adams will officiate a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the church. Burial   will follow in Oak Grove Mennonite Cemetery in West Liberty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to C.A.I.R (Council of American Islamic Relations), 4985 Cemetery Road, Hilliard, OH 43026 to show gratitude to Dr. Aijaz Ahmed, Dr. Mohamed Khan and Dr. Mohamed A. Ullah or to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Champaign, Clark and Logan Counties, 20 N Murray Street, Springfield, OH 45503.
