Shirley Ann West, 80, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at the Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine. She was born in Springfield, Ohio December 16, 1930, to the late William L. and Revilla M. (Roush) Hostetler who were from DeGraff, Ohio.

She married James Blake West September 22, 1951, in DeGraff, and he preceded her in death September 11, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris “Jean” Roby.

Surviving is a son, William B. (David Ellis) West of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia (Mark) Peck of Bellefontaine; a granddaughter, Kristina A. Barnett of Columbus, Ohio, and a sister in law, Dorothy West of Bellefontaine.

She graduated in 1948 from DeGraff High School and from the White Cross Nursing School in 1951. She practiced nursing at Marietta Hospital, Mary Rutan Hospital, and the Logan County Health Department. In 1975, she received her Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. While going to school, she worked at Mary Rutan Hospital in I.C.U., Latham’s Rest Home, and D.A.B. After graduation, she taught at the Ohio High Point J.V.S., where she wrote the first program for the first Nurse’s Aide Program. She worked for the Logan County Health Department again as the School Nurse, serving the Western part of Logan County.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine since 1954, and was Past President of the Rake and Hoe Garden Club and the Bellefontaine Women’s Club. She enjoyed golf, skiing, playing bridge, painting in water colors, and vacationing with family. She sincerely loved her God, family, friends and country.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine with Rev. Ed Beale officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the church. Interment will be in the Bellefontaine Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church 210 N. Main St. Bellefontaine, OH 43311 or to the Logan County District Library.

The staff at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
