Sondra “Soni” Elaine (Amsbaugh) Warner, 78, of Sidney died February 8, 2019 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born October 27, 1940 in Fredericktown, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Franklin and Leta June (Pritchard) Amsbaugh.
Graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1958 and Mansfield Beauty College in 1962.
Married William Warner, Jr July 13, 1962 at the First Christian Church, Mansfield, Ohio officiated by the Reverend William C. Newman.
Shortly after marriage, she moved to Southern California where her two children were born and she was a homemaker. Soni helped start the Whittier Area Gamma Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and was active at Hillcrest Congregational United Church of Christ where she put the pieces back together after everyone gave up on a disastrous directory project. She followed her husband to Marietta, Georgia where she continued as a homemaker, school parent helper for the kids and volunteered at the local hospital. Continuing on with her husband she moved to Ostrander Ohio where she was active in her childrens’ school activities at Ostrander Middle School and Buckeye Valley High School and as volunteer treasurer at Radnor Congregational United Church of Christ. She was employed for many years as an office manager at Worly Steel and Supply and attended Delaware City/County Joint Vocational School. In the early 90’s while living with her husband in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she became an avid Steelers fan, even sharing a few moments with Mean Joe Green’s wife. She was employed at Pearson, Piper and Associates working in accounting, earned certificates from Allegany Community College and completed the H&R Block Income Tax Course. And finally, moving with her husband to Sidney, Ohio she attended Edison Community College and worked at Shelby County Department of Job and Family Services, retiring in 2006. For many years, and until her death, she faithfully served as a loving, yet strict volunteer treasurer for the West Liberty United Church of Christ.
Soni is survived by her husband of 56 years for whom she was always a beautiful girl and his rock of foundation for everyday life; son William Warner III, his wife Christine and their children Anthony, Alexander, Delaney, and Kennedy, all of Galloway; her daughter Julie Ann (Warner) Wilcox, her husband Tim, and their children Zech, Kaleigh, and Olivia, all of West Liberty; her sister Patricia (Amsbaugh) Milum and her husband Ray, of Mansfield, and their children Raymond and Kalyn, and their spouses and children.
A Memorial Service will be led by Pastor Kay Young at 11:00 a.m. on April 6, 2019 at the West Liberty United Church of Christ, West Liberty, Ohio. There will be a time for gathering, light refreshments, looking at photos, and visiting with the family before (about 10:15 a.m.) and after the service. Join us to celebrate Soni’s life and share memories. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Liberty UCC for her favorite church projects, the loan reduction fund for the recently built Friendship Hall or the recently established Benevolence Fund.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
