Steve McCullough

Steve McCullough, age 75, of West Liberty, entered into the presence of his Savior on August 6, 2019, while at Mary Rutan Hospital.  He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on September 27, 1943, a son of the late Edgar J. and Ruby (Bates) McCullough.  A brother, Glenn J. McCullough, also preceded Steve in death.

On November 27, 1964 he married the former Joyce Wirick and she survives. He is also survived by a son, Chris (Stephanie) McCullough; a brother, Jim (Nancy) McCullough; a sister, Diane (Bill) Rouse; two grandchildren, Gwen McCullough and Reagan McCullough; and two step-grandchildren, Emily Hawkins and Julia Wilson.

Steve was a 1961 graduate of Salem High School and was a member of the Salem basketball team that won the state championship in 1960. He was a graduate of Urbana University in 1985. Steve was inducted into the West Liberty Salem Hall of Fame in 2008.  He was also a member of the West Liberty Lions Club and Grace Chapel Church in West Liberty.  Steve served on the West Liberty Council for 18 years.

He retired from International Harvester after 30 years. Steve then worked at Mac-o-Chee Learning Center for 12 years. He was the freshman boys’ basketball coach and ran the scoreboard for varsity football games for many years at West Liberty. Steve was an assistant varsity basketball coach at West Liberty for 18 years with Aaron Hollar. He especially loved watching Aaron’s daughters, Gabby, Emily, and Megan participate in all their sporting events. Steve loved them and was so proud of all their accomplishments. He was an avid sports enthusiast, who enjoyed coaching, watching, and supporting the West Liberty Salem Schools. Steve loved college and professional sports as well. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and traveling. His greatest joy in life was teaching and encouraging his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

It was Steve’s wish to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 10, 2019 at the Grace Chapel, 500 Linden Street, West Liberty. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at church.

The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
