Susan Kay Hines

Susan Kay (Roth) Hines, 77, of West Liberty passed away on February 28, 2025, in Lima, Ohio. She was born in Springhills, Ohio on June 12, 1947, to the late Elmer and Emma (Adams) Roth. 

On June 20,1975 she married Donald R. “Jake” Hines, and he preceded her in death on August 30, 2003. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Roth and sisters: Wanda Shilling and Helen Eaton; and a granddaughter, Brenda. 

She is survived by her children: Brian (Lisa) Roth, Dennis Hines, Tim Hines, Joe Hines, Lori (Paul) Hines, Julie (Pete) Hatfield, and Marlee (David) Parker-Oglesbee. She is also survived by 13 Grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a brother, Sam Roth.

Susan was a devote Christian and was a member of the Springhills Presbyterian Church where she served as the pianist and organist since 1960 until they had to close their doors. She then found a new home at the West Liberty United Church of Christ in 2012, which she found much joy and was able to be a fill in as pianist when needed.

Susan was a graduate of Graham High School in 1965. Following her graduation, she found work at Humble Construction as a bookkeeper in 1967 where she was able to work for 45 years before she retired. She was active in her community following retirement, volunteering for many organizations throughout the community. She was the treasurer of the VFW 1080 women’s auxiliary, a member of the West Liberty Lions club for many years and a member of the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild.

When Susan wasn’t serving her community, you could always find her relaxing in her sunroom crocheting, doing a crossword puzzle or simply enjoying the company of friends and family. She looked forward to the evenings she would go out with her friends for card night or just a quiet evening watching Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune.

Rev. Karen Griswold will officiate a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Visitation will be two hours prior from 10:00 to 12:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery.
