T.H. “Jim” Goodwin, 88, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and formerly of Rushsylvania, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born January 20, 1921, in West Burro, Ohio, to the late Vernie & Olive (Jones) Goodwin.
60 years ago, he married Mary E. Barney July 17, 1942 in Montgomery County and she survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, James “Jim” (Claudia) Goodwin of Daleville, Virginia, and Larry (Debbie) Goodwin of Dublin, Ohio; special nephew, Joe Barney of Rushsylvania; 5 grandchildren, Gregg (Julie) Goodwin of Pickerington, Ohio, Shannon (Bart) Sweeney of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Johnny Goodwin of Daleville, Virginia, Amber (Jay) Shaffer of Key West, Florida, and Lindsay (Kelly) Williams of Lexington, Kentucky; and 4 great grandchildren, Tyler & Sydney Goodwin and Tori & Tailyn Sweeney. Also surviving are many nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bud & Bill Goodwin and a sister, Viola Boyers.
Jim owned and operated the J & J I.G.A. grocery Stores in Belle Center and Rushsylvania for 40 years. He was a World War II Army Veteran and was a member of the Rushsylvania Church of Christ.
Calling hours are from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Rushsylvania and one half hour prior to the service Monday, March 2, 2009. The funeral service will start at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor John James officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushsylvania Cemetery with military honors by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
