Thomas Lee Notestine, 87, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his residence.
Thomas was born November 10, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Cecil ‘Zeke’ and Josephine (Traul) Notestine. On June 10, 1951, he married Joan Hurst and she preceded him in death November 28, 1997.
He later married Caroline Holmes April 24, 1999, and she survives in Bellefontaine. He is also survived by his two daughters, Kimberly Ann (Brian) Lewis of Powell, Ohio and Nan (David) Kauffman of Worthington, Ohio and five grandchildren, Erin, Tara, Meredith, Leigh, and Dani.
Thomas was a 1944 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and later served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Notestine Floor Covering in Bellefontaine for many years and also served as President of Colonial Federal Savings and Loan, where he was a board member as well.
He was a founding member of what is now Mad River Mountain Ski Resort along with six other gentlemen. He was an avid fisherman and fished as often as he could. He was inducted into the Bellefontaine High School Athletic Hall of Fame for football and basketball. He was a Free and Accepted Mason, belonging to Bellefontaine Lodge #209.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with Rev. Rob Fulton and Gene Marine officiating. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
