Thomas C. Roll, 84, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, went to be with Lord Monday morning, March 4, 2013. He was born at his grandmother’s house in Piqua, Ohio June 29, 1928, to the late Paul F. and Margaret A. Cooper Roll. His mother preceded him in death February 22, 1983 and his father preceded him in death December 13, 1984.
Tom married the former Marjorie H. (Miller) Homan March 12, 1949 in Covington, Kentucky and she preceded him in death July 31, 2006.
Tom is survived by a son Robert F. Roll of Bellefontaine; two daughters, LuAnn (Bill) Troyer of Huntsville, Ohio and Nancy B. (Shannon) Sheeley of Bellefontaine; a step-son, Gary A. (Barb) Homan of Marysville, Ohio; a grandson, Christian C. (Melissa) Roll of West Liberty, Ohio; a granddaughter, Mande M. (Dustin) Postle of Bellefontaine; two step-grandsons, John C. Homan of Marysville and Justin A. (Amy) Homan of Canal Winchester, Ohio; three great-granddaughters, Ryelee C. Clary, Emily V. Roll and Adison H. Postle; a great-grandson, Carson R. Roll; two step-great-grandsons, Jerome A. “Jerry” Homan and Christian J. Postle; three step-great-granddaughters, Violet S. Homan, Baylee Costello and Emily S. Postle; a special friend Pauline, and her late husband Sid Kerns, and a brother, Paul F. “Jack” Roll of Toledo, Ohio.
Tom was a 1946 graduate of Belle Center High School and was baptized in the Belle Center Church of Christ December 14, 1941. After forty four years of service as a New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail locomotive engineer, and as a General Chairperson of the United Transportation Union with an office in Indianapolis, he retired December 31, 1991.
After retirement, Tom enjoyed traveling in all fifty states and eighty four countries as well as tracing the family genealogy. He was a member of the Friendly Senior Center, the Logan County Historical Society and a life member of the Logan County Genealogical Society. Tom was also a long time member of the Logan County Democratic Central & Executive Committees.
In November 2001, Tom was the recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation from the American Red Cross for having donated blood one hundred fourteen times. He was a good and honest person who loved life to the fullest and will greatly be missed by his family.
Pastor Eric Cook will officiate the funeral service at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 12 noon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
