Thurman Ansel Allmon, 81, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born May 25, 1930 in Logan County Ohio, to the late Earl F. and Goldie M. (Routt) Allmon.

On August 5, 1953, he married Elizabeth A. “Betty” Badertscher in Bluffton, Ohio, and she preceded him in death March 20, 1988. His second wife, Barbara Ann Thornton Allmon, whom he married April 13, 1992 in Logan County, preceded him in death January 20, 2009. He was also preceded in death by a son, Randall “Randy” Eugene Allmon; a step-son, Paul Thomas Myers; a brother, Kenneth Allmon; and a sister, Ruth Hess.

Surviving is his fiancée, Frances Funk of Bellefontaine; 2 sons, Thurman Fredrick (Debra) Allmon of Lakeview, Ohio and John Alden (Jean) Allmon of Rushsylvania, Ohio; a daughter, Mary (Robert “Bob”) Newkirk of Bellefontaine; a step-son, William “Michael” (Christa) Myers of Lakeview; 2 sisters, Carol (Don) Williams of Quincy, Ohio and Janet (Gordon) Wilcox of Bellefontaine; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Thurman was a tow motor operator and retired from National Extrusion. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. Thurman was a life member and Past President of the F.O.E. #2166 and was a life member of the Bellefontaine V.F.W. #1080. He was also a member of the American Legion Harold Kerr Post #173, Bellefontaine Moose and the Senior Citizens. He enjoyed the outdoors, music, dancing and loved taking care of his car. Thurman was always available to go with his family to eat, on vacations, road trips and anywhere anyone asked him to go. He could be found eating lunch at McDonald’s every Friday and Saturday with his family and friends.

Pastor Ron Irick will officiate a 10:30 A.M. funeral service Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, November 3, 2011. There will be an Eagles Lodge Service beginning at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Bellefontaine Cemetery with Veterans services by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
