Timothy Joseph Smith, 85, of Bellefontaine passed away Friday morning, August 28, 2015 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on April 23, 1930 to the late William H. Jr. and Paulene (McCormick) Smith. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother and an older brother William Smith.
Tim married the former Mary Frances Longbrake and she survives in Bellefontaine. Tim is also survived by his children: William F. (Paula) Smith of Massillon, Neysa (Frank) Doudna of Albany, Ohio, Timothy M. (Mary) Smith of Bellefontaine, Steven A. (Tina) Smith of Taylor Mills, Kentucky, Matthew L. Smith of DeGraff and Anthony J. (Jill) Smith of Delaware, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren: Brian, Troy, Dale, Andrew, Braden, Casey, Timothy Jr., Julia, Thomas, Jessica, Derek, Sean, Anastasia and Tate Jeffrey; one great-grandson Greyson Doudna; two brothers: Kelly (Gene Anne) Smith of Guilford, Connecticut and Pat Smith of Piqua; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A veteran of the US Army, Tim served in Germany during the Korean War. He received a Certificate of Art from the Dayton Art Institute, graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, received his Master of Arts from The Ohio State University and his public teaching certificate from Wittenberg University. Tim taught seven years in the Bellefontaine City Schools and then twenty years with the Sidney City Schools before retiring in 1989. He also worked as a naturalist at the Kirkmont Center. Tim was a life-member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Logan County Art League and the Western Ohio Watercolor Society. Tim was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
Friends may call at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 5-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 10am at St. Patrick Catholic Church where a rosary service will be held at 9:30am in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
