On January 2, 2013 Twyla N. Smith went home to meet her Lord, and join the other family and friends who have passed on before her.
Twyla was born September 15, 1919, to the late James and Donna (Rutledge) Bartlett. She was also preceded in death by two brothers James Richard and Millard James Bartlett.
Twyla grew up in the Roundhead area, graduating with the class of 1937.
She married Glenn R. Smith June 14, 1940, and he preceded her in death August 8, 1968. They had four children, Crayton Smith of Pacific Palisades, California; a stillborn daughter, Connie Smith; Karen (Warren, Jr.) Sprague and Bart (Kathy) Smith, both of Jackson Center. This brought seven grandchildren, Cindy Copeland, Kim (Eric) Voress, Christy (Dan) Akers, McCain Smith, Morgan Smith, Keesha (Bryan) Byrd and Cody Smith to the family. In addition, she was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Kaylee and Kasey Copeland, Maissen, Clay and Shia Akers, and Olivia and Brooke Voress.
Twyla attended Bowling Green State University for two years and obtained her teaching degree. Twyla spent many years working at Airstream.Twyla was always a caregiver at heart, as she and Glenn opened their home to her father, James Bartlett, and later her brother, Millard Bartlett, where she cared for them until their deaths.
Twyla was happy to support Glenn in his sporting activities that later followed her sons even to a Magic Johnson/Jerry West Basketball Camp in Hawaii, her granddaughter in college, and a granddaughter and grandson to High School State Tournaments. She continued to follow Jackson Center Basketball thru last year. Twyla participated in a bowling league, the Sorosis Club and the American Club. Twyla enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends in Michigan, Wyoming and Florida, even getting a chance to attend the Academy Awards one year in California.
Twyla embraced life by being involved with family and friends, and she will be greatly missed by all who shared in it with her.
Twyla was a member of the Jackson Center United Methodist Church, where services will be conducted by Pastor Sylvia Hull at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 7, 2013. Calling hours will held at the church Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2 to 6 P.M. and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson, Ohio.

The staff of the Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center assisted the family with the arrangements.
