Vera L. Seward, 72, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009, at the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
She was born on September 12, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late George and Helen (Mabra) Deslandes. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Deslandes and a brother in infancy, and two sisters, Beverly Clark and Ann Marie Deslandes.
Surviving are her children, Rollin E. Seward, Sheila D. Williams both of Columbus, Ohio, and Cynthia L. Alexander of Bellefontaine; three brothers, Richard (Charlotte) Deslandes, Michael Deslandes both of Bellefontaine, and Howard Deslandes of Columbus; four sisters, Valorie (Paul) Taylor, Ruth Ann Strickland both of Bellefontaine, Dora (David) Bowling and Ardella Deslandes both of Columbus; grandchildren, Lacretia Rogan, Clevon, Sherrod and Seth Seward, Bryan, Kayla and Sharita Williams; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Charles Dungy of Columbus.
Vera worked at Westinghouse for nineteen years, J.C. Penney’s as a sales clerk for over twenty years and at the Logan County Residential Homes as a caregiver for over twenty years.
She was a member of Christ Temple Church in Bellefontaine where she served as the Sunday school secretary for many years. She was well known for her cooking, enjoyed taking care of others and loved her family.
Pastor Abraham Kenner will conduct a funeral service at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Calling hours will be from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the funeral home.
