Vincent N. Mathews, 54, of Wapakoneta passed away Friday morning, November 27, 2015 at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, James Cancer Hospital after a five month battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Aho, Arizona on January 30, 1961 to Theodore and Anita (Tapp) Mathews. Vince served his country in the US Navy and following his honorable discharge he was self-employed for 25 years. For the past four years, Vince has worked at Mama Rosa’s Pizza in Sidney. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Vince is survived by his father, Theodore Mathews of Kearny, Arizona; mother Anita Tapp of Bellefontaine; his wife Lisa (Whitt) Mathews, whom he married on November 10, 2010 in St. Marys; children: Athena Nicole Mathews of Bellefontaine, Vincent Wade Mathews of Casa Grande, Arizona, Kristen Creamer of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, Zachery Allen Deal of Casa Grande, Arizona and Joshua Thomas Deal of Beaver, West Virginia; five grandchildren: Isaiah Wade Roberts, Vincent Dontae Trent, Breya Alexa LeTennier, Amadeus Zion Evans and Noel Joseph Evans; siblings: Jeffery Mathews of Concho, Arizona, Charles (Tracy) Mathews of Lynchburg, Virginia, Jewel Mathews of Showlow, Arizona and Wesley Mathews of Bellefontaine; a special friend Bill (Oangel) Hansard of Dallas, Texas, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Vince was preceded in death by an infant brother Randal Lee Mathews, Paternal grandparents Georgia and Theo Mathews, mathernal grandparents Nanny and Vincent Tapp, great uncles Donny Tapp and Charles Tapp, and a cousin Denver Dixon.
A celebration of Vince’s life will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 1pm at Shawnee Springs, 400 Kristina Drive, Bellefontaine. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
