Viola G. “Susie” Maxwell, 92, formerly of Jackson Center passed away Saturday morning, January 17, 2015 at Elmwood Assisted Living, New Bremen. She was born in Shelby County to the late Benjamin and Stella (Ambos) Platfoot. Susie married Ned Maynard Maxwell on January 4, 1941 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 1983. She was also preceded in death by brothers Thurman B. Platfoot and Stanley I. Platfoot, a sister Arietta Platfoot, and three grandchildren: Eric Maxwell, James R. Maxwell, Jr. and Susan J. Carter.

Susie retired in 1985 from Airstream, Inc. and later went to work at Design Originals, where she worked until she was 84. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Montra and the Ladies Circle at the church. She was also a member of the Sororis Club and liked to read. Susie’s life was centered around her family.

Susie is survived by her children: James R. (Judy) Maxwell of Anna, Thomas R. (Carin) Maxwell of Ft. Wayne and Brenda S. (Marvin) Snider of Jackson Center; 6 grandchildren: Tammy S. (Tom) Spicer, Mark J. (Cheryl) Maxwell, Michael-Jon T. (Sarah) Maxwell, Daniel R. (Christie) Snider, Joseph W. (Karen) Snider, Dawn (Dan) Grieshop and a granddaughter-in-law Jill Maxwell; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister Eva Jeanetta Higginbothan of Pemberton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Jackson Center on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 from 4-7pm. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Montra at 10:30am with Pastor Michael Althauser officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
