Virgil Elroy Marine, 91, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010, at his home in Zanesfield, Ohio. His son, Michael, and daughter, Barbara Mabry was with him at his passing. He was born January 26, 1919 in West Liberty, Ohio. The son of Arthur and Celesta Belle (King) Marine, he married Glendora Corwin on March 23, 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1994.
Other surviving family members include brothers, James and Floyd Marine; a sister, Dorothy Humble; grandsons, Daniel, Dale, David, and Duane Mabry, and Matthew Marine; and seven great grandchildren.
Virgil attended West Liberty schools and the Urbana Junior College before entering the Navy during World War II. He became a farmer and then was the Postmaster in Zanesfield, retiring in 1979. He and Glendora spent the first part of their retirement years in Florida during the winter returning to Ohio in the summer, where he would grow a large garden for family and friends. He was always known for his willingness to help others and his gregarious nature. The world is a better place because he was here.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty, where calling hours are from 3 to 6 P.M. on Sunday, March 7, 2010. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
