Wanda S. Shumaker

Wanda S. Shumaker, age 93, of West Liberty, Ohio passed away at 9:07 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2018 in her home at Green Hills Community in West Liberty.

She was born January 26, 1924, on a farm near West Liberty and was the oldest of four children born to William Howard and Anna S. King Shumaker. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Anna S. King Shumaker (1976); her father, William Howard Shumaker (1993); a nephew, Neil Hostetler (1998) and a sister, Annabelle Hostetler (2014).

Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her brother, William Howard “Bill” (Eleanor) Shumaker; a sister, Jeanette (Kenneth) Hostetler; a brother in law, Donald Hostetler; six nieces; one nephew as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Wanda taught elementary school in Berlin, Indiana, Urbana Local and West Liberty-Salem for thirty one years before retiring from teaching. In the early years of her teaching career she spent summers in Goshen, Indiana earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Goshen College. After retiring from teaching in 1977, Wanda worked as a housekeeping supervisor at Green Hills Community. She held this position for twelve years before fully retiring.

Throughout her life she also enjoyed traveling, maintaining her home and yard in immaculate condition and until recently, was an active gardener. Wanda was a life long member of the Bethel Mennonite Church and will be remembered for her wonderfully themed and decorated bulletin boards. She was also an avid Ohio State sports fan and made a point of following the news and politics.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Green Hills Inn and Universal Home Health and Hospice Care for their attentiveness and loving care.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.

The funeral service will be held at 11A.M. Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Bethel Mennonite Church  in West Liberty.

A private committal service will take place at the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty at the convenience of the family.

The funeral arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
