Welman Dale Crisler, 76, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. He was born October 16, 1932, in Rushsylvania, Ohio, to the late Thomas Russel and Mary Olga (Ansley) Crisler.
On August 20, 1955, he married Marilyn S. (Messner) Crisler, and she survives.
He is also survived by five children, Teresa (Wes) Waits of Tacoma, Washington, Rebecca Sue and Jennifer J. Crisler, both of Bellefontaine, Charles (Rebecca Ann) Crisler of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Samuel (Rita) Crisler of Fredericksburg, Virginia; five grandchildren, Samantha, Nathan, Benjamin, Sarah, and William Crisler; three step grandchildren, Andrew, Candace, and Bethany Waits; dear friends, Steve, Janet, Jessica, and Parker Grothaus; sisters, Esther Jones and June Birt of Rushsylvania; Marlene (Joe) Thompson of Kansas, Mary Lou Harden of Seffner, Florida; brothers, Charles of Marion, Ohio, and Wellington G. (Mary Cay) of Dayton, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Merlyn Crisler and a sister Norma Daum.
Welman was a 1950 graduate of Rushsylvania High School and then worked as a machinist for Detroit Aluminum and Brass (D.A.B.) in Bellefontaine before retiring in 1999. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine, where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed taking mission trips with the church, traveling to Long Beach, Mississippi five times to aid the Katrina Rebuilding Missions. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Rob Fulton and Gene Marine at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 10, 2009, in the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Logan County Honor Guard.
