Wilbur S. Sloan, 91, of Belle Center, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, Ohio.
He was born October 22, 1920 in Belle Center, to the late Oscar H. and Ethel (Dunson) Sloan. On December 24, 1946 he married Doris A. Hoon in Huntsville, Ohio, and she preceded him in death December 23, 2008. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Norma Beatty and a niece, Judy Cousineau.
Surviving is a sister, Dana Musser of Kenton, Ohio; a nephew, Mike (Shelly) Hoon of Bellefontaine, Ohio; 5 nieces, Julie Fisher of Belle Center, Vickie (Jeff) Beach of Kenton, Tami (Randy) Waller of Ada, Ohio, Jeannie (Charlie) Sullivan of Belle Center and Jackie (Doug) Woodward of Iowa, and many great nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was a 1938 Belle Center High School graduate and was a World War II United States Marine serving in the South Pacific. He worked for Rockwell International in Kenton, and was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, the National Rifle Association, and the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard. Wilbur was also a life member of the Belle Center Masonic Lodge F. & A.M., the Bellefontaine V.F.W. #1080, Belle Center American Legion #266, Kenton Eagles, Bellefontaine AmVets #105, and the Military Order of Cootie.
Calling hours are Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Belle Center from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M., with a Masonic Service prior to the funeral service. Pastor Bryan Meadows will then officiate the 2:30 P.M. funeral service at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Belle Center. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Belle Center, with military honors by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
