William G. “Bud” Allenbaugh, age 88, of Jackson Center, Ohio, passed away Monday morning, May 19, 2014 at Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio.
He was born on the family farm in Montra, Ohio May 25, 1925, to the late William George and Bertha (Ambos) Allenbaugh. On June 5, 1949, he married the former Doris Gerber in Jackson Center and she preceded him in death February 12, 2001. Bud was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diane L. Lotz October 7, 2012, and his sister, Miriam A. Metz May 19, 1995, nineteen years to the day of Bud’s passing.
Bud is survived by his daughters, Darlene (Tom) Woolley of Jackson Center, Dr. Cheryl (John) Mann Janssen of Anna, Ohio, and Kathy (Scott) Klopfenstein of Jackson Center; a son-in-law, Ty Lotz of Anna; nine grandchildren, Greg, Ryan and Lance Woolley, Melodi Hagen, Isaac, Adrianne and Aaron Klopfenstein, Nathan Lotz and Abby Pence; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud was a 1943 graduate of Jackson Center High School and was drafted into the United States Navy shortly after graduation. He proudly served his country as part of a destroyer fleet in the South Pacific during World War II.
Bud was the owner and operator of Allenbaugh Insurance in Jackson Center for fifty years. A licensed realtor for thirty five years, he was associated with Emerson Wagner Realty. He was a founding member of the Jackson Center Community Improvement Corporation and was also active with the Jackson Center Growth Association.
Bud was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW. He served for many years on the Shelby County Board of Education. He was also a past board member and former chairman of the Ohio Mutual Insurance Group. He was very proud to be a farmer – even raising his family on the same family farm where he was born, and teaching the girls the value of hard work and the importance of education.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center. Pastor Kent Hollis will officiate the funeral service Friday, May 23, 2014, at 10 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, where visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson, Ohio with military honors provided by the Jackson Center American Legion.
The staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center assisted the family with the arrangements.
