William Dixon


William C. “Bill” Dixon, 81, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away at 6:27 P.M. Friday, September 17, 2010 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born in Rushsylvania, Ohio December 15, 1928, to the late Dale and Mary (Titus) Dixon. On May 3, 1953, he married the former Corinne M. Jacobs and she preceded him in death July 22, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Anna Elliott, brothers, Perry and Robert Dixon; and a step-brother, Robert Mathews.

Survivors include a daughter Mary “Dee Dee” Dixon of Bellefontaine; a brother, Tom Dixon; sister-in-laws, Mary Kay Murphy of Shelby, Ohio and Clara Marie Dixon of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend Carl “Hoss” Andrews, whom he considered an adopted son.

A graduate of Rushsylvania High School, he worked as an electrical engineer for the New York Central Railroad and retired from the United Telephone Company. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bellefontaine, Elks Lodge #132 and VFW Post #1080- Frank D. Castle, Bellefontaine, Ohio. He served three years in the Army Air Corp, enlisting under the “buddy system” with his best friend and step-brother Bob Mathews. He took in his niece Mary Ann Elliott, when her mother was hospitalized for a few months and his wife’s nephew, Bob Murphy, when his family moved to Shelby, so he could finish the eighth grade in Bellefontaine.

Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a graveside service Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 3:30 P.M. at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 3 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine prior to the service at Highland Cemetery.

The funeral arrangements were handled by staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
