William Arthur Roth, age 86, of Jackson Center, Ohio passed away Friday morning, October 13, 2017 at Lakeside Manor VA Hospice in Dayton, Ohio. He was born in Russells Point, Ohio February 15, 1931, to the late Arthur G. and Edna F. (Shafer) Roth. Bill was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack E. Roth and a step-daughter, Patricia Wildermuth.
Bill is survived by his wife, Helen L. (Baker) Roth of Jackson Center; his children, Michael W. (Beth) Roth of Boulder Junction, Wisconsin, Debra S. (Brent) Jeffers of West Liberty, Ohio, Robert E. Roth of Huntsville, Ohio and Nancy L. Roth of Xenia, Ohio; three step-children, Bill Wildermuth of Jackson Center, Mark Wildermuth of California and Michael (Deb) Wildermuth of Jackson Center; numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his first wife Berdonna L. Meyers Hughes of Huntsville, whom he married in 1951 and John H. James of Bellefontaine who was like a son to Bill.
A 1949 graduate of Lewistown High School, Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. He then went to work at Merchant’s Industries in Bellefontaine, Ohio and worked there for thirty eight years. Following his “retirement”, he worked until he was 79 at several other businesses in the area. Bill was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church (Rhine) in Botkins, Ohio and had previously been a member of the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church where he was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Bellefontaine Elks.
Bill was a kind-hearted man and actively served in his community. He cherished family time and his grandchildren. Bill was an avid Ohio State fan, and enjoyed basketball, fishing, hunting and reading.
Visitation will be held at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Jackson Center Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 4 to 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:30A.M. at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Botkins.
